What is power? I had a conversation with Gino this summer. We were going often to the sea, just in front of my town, Rome. We used to get, (say around 15:00) to the same place where our friends where going, and there we spent the afternoon sailing together with Andrea, Ciro, Panda and the others. We used to sail the highly contaminated coastline up to Fregene, and sometimes to stop there for an ice cream before coming back.
Afterwards we would relax and talk about things like Hydraulics or the latest concert of Steel Pulse. So, I remember that at a certain point I was having a discussion with Gino , and I was telling him about Collapse, the latest pearl of Jared Diamond and we ended up talking about the Dictator Balaguer and about power in general. Then Gino came out with something like “Power is something every man is looking for”.
That is surely true, but it’s the way you put it, I mean. Let’s make a very schematic picture, we can do two things in life, to look for food, or to look for power, and then to get the food with the power. What I was saying to Marco is that the only reason humans look for power is to get food. Gino was claiming instead that there is much more to the affair of power than the simple spaghettata.
And we didn’t agree in the end, so the words are still there, flying over the sand of Fiumicino, waiting for others to reason about why we look for power. Anyway, I hope you look for power for the same reason I do, which means Pagnotta and that’s it. In that case since we all agree that knowledge is power have a look at the nice courses that I will upload from time to time and feel free to comment, I can always add stuff.
